DEVELOPMENT MUST adapt

March of 2020, the world changed and the ways the world does business is forever changed.

There's an old adage in the semiconductor industry.  Those who invest and continue development in the tough times will come out stronger on the economic rebound.  I believe this holds true once again.

Independent Development  --- gone are the days of on-site development requirements.

We have on-site CAD tools for simulation and schematic entry, as well as test equipment for validation. Today, with high-speed internet, on-site computing power, development is largely independent.  For security, we can VPN in to your business network.

Need testing?   We have test equipment to validate new products.

Need prototyping?   We can do basic re-work.

Essential Operations

Emergency Communications ( EmComm ):

General Radio Operator License (G.R.O.L.)

We are certified by the FCC with a General Radio Operator License (G.R.O.L.), with Radar Endorsement.   On an as-needed basis, we can install-maintain-test-repair, critical radio infrastructure. This includes public safety fixed sites, mobile vehicles, as well as essential public vessel transportation.

For example, we have practical experience with SF Bay area Marine Passenger Ferries radio requirements as prescribed by the US Coast Guard.  --- MF/HF, VHF radio communications, GPS receivers, AIS transponders, Digital Selective Calling (DSC), NMEA computer interfaces, antenna installations, and similar.

Radio Volunteer Organizations, RACES / ARES

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) manages the National Incident Management System (NIMS).  In turn, NIMS defines the on scene management structure called the Incident Command System (ICS).  This system is intended to be used by all levels of government.

The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) is a radio service available to government emergency management organizations at all times, for official government emergency communications. Use and support is, as-needed, on an activation basis only.  Typically any communication support will be ran through the city or county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) coordinated with larger jurisdictions.    References:  47 CFR 97.407 and 97.111(a)(4)

In contrast, Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES ® ), as a field arm of the non-profit -- Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL),  is typically supporting communication with NGO's such as the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

The state of California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has created the California Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS).  ACS includes Amateur bands but also includes non-licensed radio operators,  such as users of FRS or CB radio bands, and everyday tools such as cellphones, email, and more.

My locality of San Jose has chosen to combine functions of RACES/ARES/ACS for efficiency.

I am trained in basic Incident Command Structure (ICS).  Additionally, I am a sworn California Disaster Service Worker (DSW), with paperwork on file with the County of Santa Clara ARES® / RACES organization.

We strive to be prepared for the next local activation, but hope it is not necessary.
